Confronted by shifting tariffs and changes in mandates to convert to low-emission engines, many commercial trucking fleet executives face “procurement paralysis” about whether to invest in new trucks, according to a study from Fleet Advantage, a lessor for heavy-duty Class-8 trucks.

And even worse, by postponing those purchases of new vehicles, fleets are keeping older trucks on the road longer. That trend has led to a massive shift in maintenance strategies, aging equipment risks, and a prevailing wait-and-see approach to upcoming regulatory changes. Those conclusions come from the Fort Lauderdale, Florida-based firm’s “Transportation Industry Benchmark Survey.”
