There’s no one-size-fits-all solution, noted Matt Wiedmeyer, CTP, director of fleet services at Fleet Advantage, which provides fleet lifecycle management solutions. What’s good for a grocery chain’s fleet might not work as well for a heavy hauler.

According to Fleet Advantage, 40% of respondents said they plan to deploy alternative-fuel trucks within the next one to two years. Last year, plans for alt-fuel vehicles were further out, with 54% planning to deploy alternate-fuel trucks within five-10 years.

A year earlier, orders plummeted to 9,902 as the industry faced what ACT called an everything shortage. That was the lowest November total since 1995 when orders were 7,923. The all-time low for November was set in 1982 when orders were 5,462.

This November’s orders are yet another indication of fleets’ pent-up demand, and strong carrier profitability and elevated fleet age, according to ACT.
